Description

Far from the madding crowd yet just 8 KM from the Venice of the East – Alleppey (Alappuzha) town is situated, Rajiv and Angelia's heritage dream home (109 years old). Reaching the villa itself is an extraordinary experience – a boat ride through the meandering backwaters with lush paddy fields and coconut groves on either side.Soak the sun, soothe your eyes and get ready for the amazing Kerala hospitality and a few days of complete bliss and peace, punctuated only, by a bird’s call and a cricket’s hum.  Each day that you spend in this heritage wooden mansion, situated on the banks of the holy river Pamba, you will feel the serenity, peace and joy, which has been long lost to the frenetic pace of the times that we live in. This is the golden opportunity to experience closeness with nature. The 3 guest bed rooms are comfortably furnished in traditional Kerala decor with wood paneled wall and mud floor. Everything at this home-stay is traditional except for the ultra modern attached toilet and bathroom. Enjoy the novel experience of bathing in the ‘open’, but with the assurance of complete privacy. Bathing in our specially designed bathroom offers you the pleasure of not only of a cool refreshing shower but also the opportunity to watch the birds flying in flocks or the night sky with its infinite number of stars or the glow warm winking at you from the trees.

Amenities include a television while en-suite washrooms have round the clock hot and cold water. The washrooms offer 'open' showers that let you bathe under the skies but in complete privacy. The windows and doors open to the river and the garden allowing excellent ventilation and enchanting views from the rooms. All guest rooms are well furnished with two large single beds, wardrobe, writing table and chair. The terracotta tiled roof and the wooden attic along with the wooden walls provide effective cooling. The netted windows provide protection from mosquitoes and other insects. The additional net provided along with the coat ensures total protection from mosquitoes. There is also a small veranda running around each room.

The way and pace of life at the villa is decided entirely by you – laze in a hammock with a book, take moonlit walks along the river, or simply immerse yourself in the water and feel the gentle ripples against your skin. For the more active among you get an insight into the Kerala way of life – see the traditional paddy harvesting, go on a fishing trip and interact with the local fishermen, watch toddy (it is the fermented sap of the coconut tree) tapping and taste it, or simply stroll around the plantain and coconut groves, local landmarks, temples and markets. Ayurveda and Kerala are synonymous – on special requests, get a relaxing massage.

Pick-up is from Nedumudi boat jetty. If you would like us to pick up from any other location, those charges will be extra. (As per taxi charges)

Message from the host: All around, you will see country boats ferrying paddy or fish. Try fishing with the fishing rod in our pond or in the Pamba river. You can make a village tour and see for yourself, life in a typical Kuttanad (this is one of the places in world where farming is done below the sea level) village, visit the world famous snake boat, you can even take a dip in the river Pamba and feel how the body and mind relaxes.Wishing to escape the madness and chill out in pure bliss and tranquility, then this is the place. This is the ideal place for long stay especially for those seeking the right atmosphere to give expressions to their literary or artistic urges.

I can't imagine you could get a better experience of the backwaters than with this traditional homestay! The service, cooking, organisation of daily activities was exceptional and a true taste of life on the backwaters. The cooking is not just authentic but very tasty! The location is brilliant, with the house backing straight onto the river ready to take you away on boating adventures! We looked around at other homestays in the area and having seen some of them on our expeditions, we are sure we definately made the right choice. Mahesh Patel - Ahmedabad

We stayed here in the beginning of November which is a peaceful time in the backwaters, not many other tourists around :) The charming old house is very well placed right by the river. The rooms are clean and spacious and there is a lovely outdoor bathroom from where you can see the stars and fireflies dancing around the palm trees at night.
Food is very good home-made South-Indian food three times a day, served outside in the garden or in the family dining room at night.
The host Rajeev is very welcoming and makes you feel at ease. We enjoyed conversations with him very much and could learn about the local life and habits. There are 3 children in the family, two 9-year old boys and their elder sister, so visitors with children can surely have some company as well.
It is lovely to go for village walks in the neighbourhood, either on your own or accompanied by Rajeev. I wish we'd had time for a country boat ride which Rajeev can arrange for you, but this time our stay was too short. Hope to be back next year! Karin - Luxembourg

Rajiv's home is a traditional Kerala house with a breathtaking view of the backwaters. With a big lawn dotted with different trees: mango, jackfruit, coconut (we were treated to water from freshly plucked tender coconuts) and hammocks - it is the perfect place to relax! We took a boat ride through the narrow canals of the backwaters and it was the best one hour we spent in Alleppey. The food is to die for - authentic Kerala cuisine served on a banana leaf - absolutely delicious. But the most wonderful part of staying at Pamba is Rajiv's warmth and openness - he is a great person, and made us feel completely at home. In retrospect, my husband and I really do wish we'd spent an extra day at Pamba. We look forward to visiting again! Saksham Puri - New Delhi

We stayed for one night only and were really impressed with the beauty of the location, the village and the friendly staff and owners.
This is a family run home stay and it was truly a great experience. Great outdoor showers offer a natural cleansing session accompanied by chirping birds, a fabulous way to kick off the morning.
Charlie took us on a tour to the village, exploring the rice fields, meeting locals on the way and even introduced us to coconut beer. He was at our beck and call literally all day and made 110% sure we were comfortable and enjoying ourselves. Lovely gentleman and a pleasure to have met him.
The food was very traditional and it was great. A must is the Kerala prawns from the fish market. At an extra cost, they are definitely worth it and Charlie was more than happy to get them for us. Grilled and prepared to perfection they were the best prawns I have ever had!
The home stay is on the river and we really enjoyed lazing about in hammocks in the luscious garden looking out to the river and the passing boats.
Raj organised our boat with a company called Evergreen. It was spectacular and luxurious. Worth every penny. He also assisted me with organising my transport to Trivandrum a d arranged for a tuk to fetch me at 5am to take me to the bus stop. The family is so welcoming and really helpful. It was a pleasure to have met them and we are extremely grateful for their hospitality and kindness.
A must stay if you are going to Allelley! Andrew White - Australia

Our recent stay at this villa was one to remember. The hospitality was excellent and we felt relaxed and at home Rajeev's beautiful home. The food was excellent, a true taste of traditional Keralan food (we ticked it all off in the Lonely Planet guide!).
Rajeev was an outstanding host, arranging tickets for the boat race, a river cruise and various other excursions for our group. And then you have Charlie! Charlie was basically our tour guide for our stay, he took us on a walk through the village, on a boat trip to see an old Hindu temple and caught our dinner from the river one evening (this is to name but a few of the things he did for us over 5 days). So, overall, the service was 5*!
This place was a real experience, the location on the river is lovely and we had an excellent time! I would definitely recommend this homestay. Rebecca P - Wokingham

My husband and I stayed at the homestay for 3 days while travelling through south india. It was a bit tricky to find initially, but a bit of help from the host and we made it there. The lodging is very comfortable with AC and clean bathrooms. The standout factor is the food. Amazing food that is not watered down for tourists. Authentic flavours and generous portions. We really enjoyed the hospitality and conversations that we had there over a few drinks late into the evening. Pat - Australia
