Description

In the heart of a coffee plantation in Madikeri, with a constant murmur of the perennial stream and exotic butterflies to give you company, stands a five bed home stay in Coorg that is steeped in tranquillity and surrounded by nature’s bounty. Just 6 kilometres from the Cariappa Circle, 8.5 kilometres from the bus stand, this lovely home, which is surrounded by evergreen forests has no sounds of the city life. Pepper corn vines, silver oak trees, aesthetically done up ensuite bedrooms, lush gardens, hot and fresh food, a clean environment and joyous hosts all come together to make this a perfect Indian Home Stay. 

There are five executive rooms on offer. Each has its own cheery bathroom, aesthetic interiors, modern amenities, highest level of cleanliness and well-thought out comfort.  Two superior executive rooms are placed in the main cottage wherein a running veranda provides privacy. Two executive rooms are created as a separate enclosure from the main house. The special executive room with a sit out area and an open kitchenette is ideal for guests looking for privacy. Common lobbies and dining room complete the picture of this idyllic cottage in Coorg.

Though there is a lot of sightseeing to be done in Madikeri and surrounding areas, it is the sense of peace that makes this Coorg cottage a haven for travellers. Add to that the hot, delicious and freshly prepared meals that try their best to cater to individual tastes. The ever smiling staff will be more than happy to assist you or else if you like you too can walk into the kitchen to make your own tea and coffee at any given time of the day. Bring the young to let them experience the call of birds, the spice trees or simply run amok in the garden. The young and youngsters will just be thrilled by the fresh air, hot water, Tata TV in every room or simply readjusting to the notion of doing nothing.

Accommodation

There are two executive rooms, with attached washrooms, with an interconnecting door, that are together yet not far from the main house. Please note, the Executive rooms are ideally suited for a couple. No extra beds can be accommodated.

The main house consists of two Superior executive rooms with attached washrooms.  Sitting and Dining areas with a common washroom, a kitchen and a huge, running veranda which ensures privacy to all bedrooms. 

There is one independent special executive room with an attached washroom,which has a private sit-out.  The Superior and the Special executive rooms are large enough to accommodate extra beds.

How to Reach

Air : Nearest domestic airport is Mangalore, which is 159 km away and International airport is Bangalore which is 260 km away. Mangalore is connected by air to airports in South India, especially to Chennai and Bangalore. Bangalore airport is well connected to many gulf countries and other foreign cities. It takes about Rs 2,000 for Taxi from Mangalore to Coorg and Rs 3,000 from Bangalore to Coorg.

Rail : Nearest railhead are Managlore, Hassan, Mysore and Thalasserry. Mangalore is the major railway station close to Coorg, Mangalore is connected by rail to all cities in India.

A picturesque charming town situated at an elevation of over 5,000 ft (1,525 m) above sea level.    

Coorg also called as Kodagu is derived from the local version Kodavu and the people of Kodagu. According to ancient scripts the land of initial settlement was called Krodadesa which later became Kodavu. Coorg is sometimes misspelled as “Koorg” and “Coorge”.

Where is Coorg Located?
Coorg is located in the south-west part of Karnataka bordering Kerala. Coorg measures 96 km (north-south) in length and 64 km east-west in breadth. The area of Coorg district is 4102 sq. kilometers and the population estimated in 2001 was 545,322, increasing 11.64% from 1991 to 2001, and 5.75% from 1981 to 1991.

Coorg in History
Coorg was under the Gangas rule during 9th and 10th centuries and Cholas in the 11th century. Changalvas were allies to both the above dynasties but they were independent till 14th century as Hoysalas defeated the Cholas in the 12th century. Changalvas accepted the supremacy Of Hoysalas from 14th to 16th century. Then Nayakas who later paved the way to the Haleri Rajas of Kodagu ruled Coorg till 1834.

Coorg’s Landscape : 
The prominent peaks in Coorg are Kote Betta, Pushpagiri, Nishani Motte, Tumbe Male. Tadiyandamol (1750 m), Soma Male and Brahmagiri.

The Coorgs – People of Coorg
Coorg homes several communities with diverse ethnic origins. Coorgies or Kodavas are the main ethnic community. Gowdas (Arey bhashe gowdas or Coorg gowdas), Tamilians, Malayalees, Mophlas or Mapilles (Muslims) communities also share a part. There are some tribal groups such as the Kurubas, Kudiyas, Yeravas who are said to be the tribal origins of Coorg.
