The canopy of the tree spreads over 3 to 4 acres of land. According to local information, the tree is a few hundred years old. It is also known as “Kaya Kalp Vriksh”. As the tree is surrounded by private land. The landowners dare not cut any branch which may grow and cover their land as they may face grave misfortune. Thus the Great Banyan Tree continues to grow. It is a sight to see in order to believe.

GURUDWARA FATEHGARH SAHIB : It marks the conquest of the Sikhs in 1710 under the leadership of Banda Bahadur. AAM KHAS BAGH : The Aam Khas Bagh was built in the Mughal period as a highway inn for both royalty and common people. It was built by Babur but then extended and rebuilt by Sha Jahan. The Aam Khas Bagh was famous for its many monuments given below;

Sheesh Mahal : Built by the orders of Emperor Jahangir. The domes of the monument were decorated with glazed tiles, some of which are still visible today.

Hamam : Built by the orders of Emperor Jahangir where the water was taken through underground terracotta channels and a unique method of heating the water was adopted.

Daulat Khana – E - Khas : This double storeyed monument was built under the reign of Emperor Shah Jahan as his private residence. This must have been the most beautiful building of those times. All the rooms were decorated with designs.

SADHANA BHAGAT MOSQUE : Built in memory of a saint by the name of Sadhana Qasai who breathed his last at Srihind. He was a poet and a butcher by profession. He was always annoyed by religious scholars, who thought that a butcher could not attain spiritual enlightenment. One of his hymns are present in the Adi Granth Sahib. His followers are called Sadhna Panthis.

About Location

Chandigarh, one amongst the first and the best planned cities of India! Designed by Le Corbusier, a French architect, the city mesmerizes you with its simplicity. It was named after Goddess Chandi, the Goddess of Power, and is the shared capital of the states of Haryana and Punjab. Situated at a distance of hardly 250 km from Delhi, Chandigarh is one of the popular holiday destinations for its residents. Though the city, being relatively very young, does not have historical monuments to boast of, it definitely manages to impress the tourists with its modern architecture and natural beauty (parks, lakes, etc).
