Tucked away in a place where even Google maps will not be able to get you a satellite image, the place charms you from the moment you step into the compound of this homestay. There are just 5 cottages,  set on a beautiful stretch of backwater, so it is never crowded with tourists. The water is only about 15 feet from the front porch of your cottage. This place is tucked in a tiny village a few minutes from the coastal road to Kochi, surrounded by palm trees and Chinese fishing nets. The drive is through banana plantations. The rooms are pleasant with outside verandas, however, the star here is the front patio overlooking the backwaters. You will love sitting here reading and relaxing.

Unlike Alleppey, there are not many tourists here and it is much quieter. It is located mid way between Kochi and Alleppey in a small town called Thiravoor which is not on the tourist trail. If you go to Kerala, and don't stay at this farmhouse, you sure have missed a fantastic experience! Peaceful, relaxing, wonderful meals, great rooms with amazing views next to the estuary.  It's probably what everyone dreams of when they imagine the Kerala Backwaters - peaceful, tranquil and outstandingly beautiful. We are serving traditional Keralite dishes , accompanied by sea food specialties. This waterfront resort is located 23 kms south of Cochin.

The hosts are very friendly and helpful. The food is delicious and varied at the farmhouse, home-cooked and communal with other guests. The staff very friendly and the service excellent.  They have small boats which you can use for free to peddle around yourself on the backwaters. This is a family run place with a very friendly atmosphere.

The Xavier's have a beautiful eco-friendly houseboat. The boat ride is totally relaxing. You can take out canoes on our own when you wish to. It's 50 km from Kochin international airport. Kochi airport is (about 1 hour and 15 minutes). There is a railway station at Cherthala at which most of the major trains stop. The boats are beautifully crafted and very comfortable. They are punted, so there is no noise of an engine, and the area is incredibly peaceful.  Because the boats are punted, it is not possible to travel very far, but we don't think this was in anyway a disadvantage. The scenery is not varied (although absolutely sublime - wide open skies reflected in the still waters and lush palm trees all around, lots of birds to watch). It is a better to fully relax and enjoy what is  there rather than travel rapidly through larger areas. Punting house boat are eco friendly, well furnished cabin with solar paneling system and also bio tank facility.

This is an excellent value location on the backwaters with peace and tranquility all around. The cuisine is of Keralite style and usually served with fresh prawns, fish and vegetables.

Alappuzha, also known as Alleppey, is a city in Alappuzha District of Kerala state of southern India. It is the administrative headquarters of Alappuzha District. This town is considered to be the oldest planned town in this region and the lighthouse built on the coast of the town is the first of its kind along the Arabian coast (reference encyclopedia of Kerala in Malayalam language). Alleppey is situated 62 kilometres (39 mi) to the south of Kochi and 155 kilometres (96 mi) north of Trivandrum.[2] A town with picturesque canals, backwaters, beaches, and lagoons, it was described as the one of the places known as "Venice of the East" by Lord Curzon. Alleppey is an important tourist destination in India. The Backwaters of Alleppey are the most popular tourist attraction in Kerala. A houseboat cruise in these backwaters is a delightful experience. It connects Kumarakom and Cochin towards north and Quilon to the South. Alappuzha is also the access point for the annual Nehru Trophy Boat Race, held on the Punnamada Lake, near Alappuzha, held on the second Saturday of August every year, is the most competitive and popular of the boat races in India. The mullackal chirap is also one of the attractions of Allapuzha which is the festive season held ten colorful days every year in the month of December.

Other attractions in Alleppey are Alappuzha Beach, offering one of the most beautiful views of the Arabian Sea, Ambalappuzha Sri Krishna Temple, Mannarasala Temple, Chettikulangara Devi Temple, Haripad Subrahmanya Swamy Temple, Mullakkal Temple, Edathua Church, and Champakulam Valia Palli. Krishnapuram Palace also attracts many tourists. The tasty ambalappuzha payasam is a popular dessert.

Homestay that surprises you right from its approach road. Tucked away in a place where even google maps could not get a satellite image, this place charms you from the moment you step in to their bounday walls. With just 5 cottages, all absolutely clean and large and airy, and the backwaters right at your doorstep, you cant stop taking pics for the first hour you are there. The hosts are very friendly and helpful. Food is Kerala food modified to suit international palate. Thier boat ride is totally relaxing. The environs are peaceful. Two days of bliss. And when we got the bill, guess what....everything from food to boat ride was included in room rent. Am sure we will be running to this place every time we want a break from the city's hustle bustle. Highly recommended. Ayush - Bangalore

Wow! We had such an incredible time on this back waters trip. The trip included staying on a houseboat for 24 hours. Although the boat was simple, it had everything we needed. There wasn't nothing more idyllic than sitting at the front of the boat while our two boatmen punted along silently through the tranquil backwaters without a motor in ear shot. The food was amazing, the chef prepared local Keralan delicacies which included two types of fish, loads of different vegetables and fresh Indian bread. And to top it all off, while we were watching the sun come down on the boat, the team cropped up with a couple of beers. Not a bad word to say about this trip! Dave - London

Can't recommend this place highly enough. It is truly on the backwaters. A great way to experience the tranquility and beauty of Kerala. The rooms are beautiful, the hotel is family-run (and both service and food are excellent), and they have boatmen who will take you out to see the sunset (or even on an overnight houseboat tour) or you can take out a canoe on your own to explore. If you are looking for a place to relax, it's hard to beat it. We spent three nights here and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. The rooms faced right onto the water, and from the balcony we could watch the birds feeding and people boating about. The food was consistently delicious, and our hosts were more than willing to organise anything we wanted to do: backwater canoe trip, Ayurvedic massage, and leant us their scooter to drive to the beach. Highly recommended.Mark - Sydney-Australia

This is a lovely place with amazing views, and excellent staff. The food was simple, but tasty, and good value. It's incredibly quiet - no motorized boats at all in the area, and seemingly only one other place for tourists (so far!). It's far enough from Alleppey to feel really secluded and it's the perfect place to chill out and relax. After a hectic time in Rajasthan, this was just what we needed.
There were four of us so we didn't stay on the house boat (they only take couples - those who did go, really enjoyed it too), but the Farm has its own smaller boat with a boatman who will take you around the backwaters whenever you want - which is really worthwhile. If you've time it would probably be worth having one night on the house boat, and the rest just on land.  Pete - England
