How to Reach

Air : Indian Airlines and Jet Airways operate daily flights between Leh and Delhi

Rail : The nearest railway station is at Kalka from where you can take a bus or taxi to Manali via Shimla. There are regular Tata Sumo and bus services between Manali to Leh.

Road : The two popular routes to Leh are from Srinagar via Kargil on the Srinagar-Leh Highway and from Manali via Sarchu and Dharchu on the Manali-Leh Highway. These routes are only open from June to October. The respective night halts on the two routes are Kargil and Sarchu. There are regular bus and Tata Sumo services to Leh. Although the roads to Leh are well maintained, it is a long and tiring journey of two days. The picturesque locales compensate more than enough for the monotony. The most comfortable and convenient though expensive mode of travel, however, is by taxi, which are available for hire on fixed point-to-point tariff. For visits to the newly opened areas of Nubra, Dah-Hanu, Tsomoriri, Tsokar and Pangong Lakes. It is mandatory to engage the services of a registered/recognized travel agency for making all the requisite arrangements including internal transport. You may contact Mr. T. Dorjee of www.discoverladakhadventure.com for assistance.

About Location

The vibrant wonder land that will take you into a world where white snowfall will greet you, whose beauty will leave you spell bound and the influential culture will impress you with its profound history. Known for its pure atmosphere, crystal clear lakes and blue skies, Ladakh is a region of the northernmost state of India, Jammu and Kashmir. It is a mountainous land bounded by Kunlun Mountain Range in the north and the Great Himalayan range in the south. The exquisiteness of this land cannot be described into terms. Here, in Ladakh, one will be amazed to see that how live and colorful a raw, barren and a desolate land can actually be!

The compelling charisma and splendour of this place attracts a lot of tourists round the globe as its barren mountain ranges has been one of the most unreachable and forbidding regions of the world. Many missionaries, traders and explorers who crossed this land imbibed it with a fascinating union of age old religions, a well-off cultural history and varied ethnic influences. Its soaring mountains, age old monasteries (gompas), spectacular landscapes, snow peaked radiant glaciers, sparkling rivers are the reason for its mystical beauty. This beautiful state has an equally beautiful capital, Leh which is situated in the Indus river valley.

I have not stayed in any other place in Leh but can bet this one to be one of the best. Located in a peacefully locality minutes away from the hustle and bustle of the main market. Awesome views of snow capped mountains from the property as well as few rooms. We stayed in the new block. They have a kitchen garden and most of their their vegetables come from there, fresh! Food too is cooked fresh and it's better to order beforehand if you need any special items. Rooms are big and spacious with a spacious washroom. Hot water was available all the time. Our balcony provided commanding views of the snow capped mountains. There are book shelves on each floor in the new block. Both Sonam and Naomi are very good hosts and always eager to help you out. We got our taxi, stay at Tso Kar, Tso Moriri & Tso Pangong and the ILPs through David and all were almost hassle free. Highly recommended.Somyajit Nandy - Kolkata

Had an excellent experience with family - we got 2 adjoining rooms. It has modern facilities (except the wi-fi which went down for a day) and the host family and kitchen staff give you complete personal attention. Vimla - San Francisco - California

It was a great pleasure to stay here for 3 days, beautiful green garden, peaceful, lovely setting high mountains with a snow cap, you can also see high old monastery and the old palace on the top of the Hill its amazing, Staff do all the best, nice boss, they arrange trips for reasonable price with a great polite driver. Nice food, garden table, cheap price. Not all room are so good ,so try ask one with balcony high floor. Only thing try to do something with the shower and also have some room with king size bed and soft pillow...hope to be back.Sebastian - Oslo, Norway

We, a group of friends stayed here for 5 nights. Good location only 10 minutes from the center of town and quiet. David the owner is a wealth of knowledge on the area and Pranav, the manager is just great - as are all the staff. The service was impeccable and we got bed tea with a smile even at 4:30 AM before our flight out of Leh.There are many places within a day's drive away and Pranav will help with all these. We had a nice big room in the new building with a nice balcony overlooking the flower and vegetable garden and paid about US$45 per night per couple. Yes, it was quiet too. The Ladakh festival was on and made for interesting things to see. The food at Snow View was good and plentiful and they worked to accommodate your culinary needs. We met other interesting travelers from India, the UK and USA and got to chat and exchange notes. Keshav G - Johannesburg - South Africa

We heard about this fantastic property in Ladakh from a family friend who stayed there last summer.
We were trying to locate this hotel situtated at upper changspa and asked the locals around, the locals looked up and asked "David Sonams hotel?, go straight", thats how well known the owner is.
The hotel is situated at the end of Chagspa road near Karzoo guest house amidst lush greenry. There is a vegetable garden in the front yard of the hotel, and the rooms from the new wing overlook the Stok Kangri (we stayed in the "Hemis" room).
The reception is small, cozy and decorated with pictures on the wall and artifacts set up nicely on a book shelf that has various photo books on Ladakh, where you can sink into the couch and read over a cup of coffee.
We were warmly greeted by "Naomi Sonam" who owns the hotel and the very courteous staff who greet you with a pleasant smile at any time of the day.
The rooms are well made and offer great views from the attached balcony. Each floor has Portraits of Ladakhi people, a small book shelf and a couch to sit and read.
The restaurant is small with 5-6 tables, however there are 4-5 tables in the courtyard outside which is beautifully gardened. We only had breakfast for the days we stayed there. I would rate the overall taste/quality/presentation and service of the reaturant as 4/5.
David, who co-owns the hotel is an expert when it comes to travel in Ladakh, as we learnt from numerous discussions with him relating to our itinerary. I think the best part of staying with this hotel was the travel advice David offers as he accompanies various photographers on assignments within Ladakh and is extremly warm and helpful
We stayed here for 4 nights/ 5 Days and they helped arrange the inner line permits and all the taxi arrangements as well. We were even informed about the ongoing Hemis Mask festival and David went out of his way to get us front row tickets for taking better pictures.
There is a small road next to the hotel along a stream which takes you a lane which has numerous restaurants (Wonderland, German Bakery, la Pizzeria)
Absolutely recomended.Abhishek M Parikh - Mumbai

Hirschaid - Germany

In the course of my visit to Ladakh, I found that it is a place that has yet to discover in my wish list. I had talked to my friends regarding the place best to stay at Ladakh and most of them suggested David. The set up from my side was done few months back and my realisation came true when I first met him. David Sonam, owner, really a humble guy, a nature lover, a trekker!! what else I don't know. Yes another thing, he who has no affinity to money.I am an avid birder, so I approached to him to have few pointers on birding hotspots in the region. As per his suggestion we achieved a bag full within 4 days of our stay. The manager duo Naomi and Serin both helped us a lot during the absence of David. Each and every minute thing they took care of. After knowing that we were there for birding, they provided us a "field guide", species found in the Ladakh region on our first day photography and birding trip at Leh. Hotel-room-service-boys are always available at your door step and just a call away. Foods were excellent, specially apricot jam with bread provided at our breakfast. Bathrooms are spacious and well equipped with necessary items. We didn't expect Wi-Fi connection, it is a free service that they provide. Rooms are better than that of normal Indian standards and the lobby has bookshelves loaded with books of different genres. A must visit for everyone!! Dibyendu - Kolkata
