About Location

The state of Goa, India, is famous for its beaches and places of worship, and tourism is its primary industry. Tourism is generally focused on the coastal areas of Goa, with decreased tourist activity inland. Foreign tourists, mostly from Europe, arrive in Goa in winter whilst the summer and monsoon seasons see a large number of Indian tourists.

This relatively small state is situated on the western coast of India, between the borders of Maharashtra and Karnataka and is better known to the world as a former Portuguese enclave on Indian soil. Tourism is said to be the backbone of Goa's economy.

Influenced by over 450 years of Portuguese rule and Latin culture, Goa presents a somewhat different representation of the country to foreign visitors. Major tourist attractions include: Bom Jesus Basilica, Fort Aguada, a wax museum on Indian culture and a heritage museum. The Churches and Convents of Goa have been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO
Beaches

Baga Beach in North GoaMost Goan Beaches are equipped with lifeguards
Colva Beach in South Goa Goa's beaches cover about 125 kilometres (78 mi) of its coastline. These beaches are divided into North and South Goa. North Goa is more commercial and touristy with an abundance of mostly low and medium budget tourist accommodations; whereas South Goa is where most higher–end hotels and private beaches are located.

A notable exception in South Goa is Palolem Beach which features basic accommodation and is one of the most visited beaches in Goa. The further north or south you go, the more isolated the beaches get.

Some of the more popular beaches are Colva, Calangute, Baga and Anjuna. These beaches are lined with shacks that provide fresh sea food and drinks. Some shacks arrange special events to attract more customers.

Testimonial

We spent three nights at this wonderful restored house and experienced good service, friendly staff and tasteful food. The room was very clean and our only suggestion for improvement would be to instal one or two hammocks in the wonderful courtyard. John S Cologne - Germany

We stayed as a family of 2 adults and 2 children for 2 weeks in the Rajastani suite this April. I went on the positive reviews in the lonely planet guide and trip advisor- and so glad I did. This is a lovely picturesque, quiet, relaxed place to stay- friendly and great location for siquerim beach. The staff are very friendly, helpful and the food was great- my children loved the garden area. The Rajastani suite was wonderful- beautifully decorated in old indian style with private terrace, the room was very big and easily accommodated the 4 of us. Very good value especially as the room rate Is half price by Easter- low season. The guest house is well situated for fort Aguada road where all the main restaurants, facilities are and the quieter end of south candolim beach( sequerim beach.) Overall if you are looking for a family friendly guest house near the beach and local amenities, and away from the hustle and bustle in other parts of north goa ( such as north candolim, Baga, Arjuna, then marbella is a great place to stay- we will go back there on our next visit!!!! Highly recommended. Charnjit Chahal-Hertfordshire, UK

Apart from the innumerable geckos (i am petrified of them and one didnt let me sleep as it made too much noise), my stay here was perfect. The house in itself is beautiful and i am sucker for old portugese homes and heritage buildings be it anywhere. I stayed in the Rajasthani Suite last weekend and the rooms are clean and well maintained just like a 5 star hotel room, you dont get toiletries except soap, which is just fine by me. The staff running the place are well behaved and so cordial and humble and they take care of you in every way. They have quite a menu and the food is all home cooked, so its healthy and you would want to indulge. Its in a forest environment so no traffic noise, just the sounds of nature. You can take the back gate from the backyard and trek up to the mountain that takes you to the beach and gives you a breathtaking view of the sea. I am definitely going back again.

We spent 5 nights and 6 days at this picturesque Portuguese styled guest house. We stayed in the Moghul suite. The room was lovely big and very spacious with stylish furnitures. The room was attached to a grand courtyard. After our everyday hectic sightseeing and travel, upon our return we found the guest house very calm, soothing and quiet amidst natural surroundings. The staff was extremely well mannered and always provided service with a smile. The food was excellent with homely touch. Last day we went trekking from the hotel to the rocky beach which is just behind the guest house. It was very beautiful, quiet and scenic and shall remain ever lasted in our memory. Madhavi Ghorpade - Surat
